AFA' S TLMP Lawsuit Gains Community Support The City Council for the City of Wrangell, Alaska, voted to join AFA as co-plaintiff in the lawsuit and agreed to contribute $25,000 toward the effort. Congressional Action Needed to Save Alaskas Starving Timber Industry
Now the administrations goal for the Forest Service apparently is to have the system timber benign by 99. The effect on regional economies and rural communities is apparently of no concern to the White House.
Apparently, the Forest Service intends to implement a new roadless area policy for the Tongass through the administrative appeal process, contrary to the statutory and regulatory authorities controlling such policy determinations and despite the fact that the Forest Service is limited to correcting legal errors during the administrative appeal process.

The latest revision of the plan was issued in May, 1997, replacing the original 1979 TLMP , as amended in the mid- eighties. The revision took 10 years to complete, and cost the taxpayers nearly $13 million.
